- Plan , organize, and complete essential field practicum requirements and documentation (e.g., Medical, Police Reference Check, Standard First Aid/CPR-C) in order to be cleared/prepared to start Field Practicum 1 and facilitate entry to practice as a pre-service educator
Humber Learning Outcomes:
- Meta skill: Critical thinking
- Skill in action: Professionalism
Description:
- The purpose of this assignment is to gain an understanding of the S.M.A.R.T. goal format and to develop S.M.A.R.T. goals related to: ECE 120, academic integrity and Field Practicum 1.
Your responses will be recorded on the Setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals Template (posted to Blackboard).
PART ONE – 1 S.M.A.R.T. Goal Related to ECE120
- You will create 1 S.M.A.R.T. goal and 2 corresponding strategies for success related to ECE120. Be sure that your goal is distinctly different from any examples discussed in class.
S.M.A.R.T. goal: First, consider the following questions: “How do I learn?”; “What learning strategies work for me?” and “What do I have difficulties with when I learn?” Next, write a one-sentence S.M.A.R.T. goal you want to set for yourself that you can achieve by the end of this semester. Remember to be realistic and honest and write your S.M.A.R.T. goal according to the following template:
In order to [insert the objective for your goal], so I [insert the rationale/reason for your goral}, I will [insert the specific, measurable behaviour you will demonstrate] by or during or between or from or the week of or the month of [insert your time statement].
Ex. – In order to make the Dean’s Honour Roll for the Winter 2025 semester so I can gain acceptance into a university-based ECE program following graduation, I will achieve a minimum A grade in the ECE120 course by the end of the term.
Strategies for success: To meet your goal, specific, measurable strategies are necessary to help guide the process. Once you have written your goal, ask yourself these questions: “How will I achieve my goal?”; “What do I need to do to meet my goal?” and “Are there services or people who can help me meet my goals?” For your S.M.A.R.T. goal, you will state two (2) specific strategies that you will use to support reaching your goal. Each strategy should be 3-5 full sentences long and explained so that their relevance to your goal is evident. You can choose to develop your own strategies or cite/reference strategies from existing sources (please make sure to reference external content using current APA standards).
Ex. – To help achieve a minimum A grade in the ECE120 course, I will attend every scheduled class each week, arrive on time and stay for the duration of each session. Doing so will ensure I am present for all assignment-related discussions, during which time assignments are introduced by the professor and explored in considerable detail. I will also be able to ask assignment-related questions that emerge after I undertake the work.
PART TWO – 1 S.M.A.R.T. Goal Related to Academic Integrity.
- You will register in and complete Humber’s Academic Integrity modules after which time you will obtain a certificate of completion that you will include in your assignment submission (see the steps outlined below). You will then create 1 academic integrity-related S.M.A.R.T. goal and two (2) corresponding strategies for success.
Part 2, Step 1:
To add the academic integrity modules to your Blackboard page, please do 1 of the following options:
- Option 1 – Go to the registration tab just like you did for your regular course registration. Click on the term Fall 2023. You will then get to the screens identified on page two of the link below. You can register using the first option by just typing in the CRN which is 6473.
OR
- Option 2 – You can do the second option on the same sheet, which involves adding the following:
Subject: TUTR
Course Number 1234
and then the course will also show up this way
NOTE: You may already be loaded into these tutorials, in which case the work of registration has already been done for you. If this is the case, you need not complete either option 1 or 2 as described above.
Part 2, Step 2:
Choose one of the following six values of academic integrity: (1) Honesty; (2) Trust; (3) Fairness; (4) Respect; (5) Responsibility; (6) Courage.
Part 2, Step 3:
On the assignment template, clearly identify which academic integrity value you have chosen. Next, create a one-sentence S.M.A.R.T. goal related to your chosen academic integrity value.
You will then state 2 specific strategies that you will use to support reaching your goal. You can choose to develop your own strategies, or cite/reference strategies from existing sources, e.g., the academic integrity modules (please make sure to reference external content using current APA standards).
Part 2, Step 4:
Finally, make sure to include a copy, or screen shot, of the Certificate of Completion received after completing the Academic Integrity modules with your assignment submission.
PART THREE – 1 S.M.A.R.T. Goal for Field Practicum 1
- Reflect on starting Field Practicum 1 in second semester. Next, create 1 S.M.A.R.T. goal, along with 2 corresponding strategies for success, which speak to a worry or concern you have related to the field experience. NOTE: You can use this material as your initial goal/strategy for Field Practicum 1 next term.
Submission Checklist:
- Make sure to include an APA formatted title page, which includes the signed academic integrity pledge.
- Your responses must be recorded in the Setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals template (posted to Blackboard).
- Use intext citations and include a reference page if including information from external sources.
- Make sure to include a copy of the Certificate of Completion awarded after finishing the Academic Integrity Modules.
- Submit your assignment online following your professor’s instructions.
Evaluation:
See Blackboard for the assignment rubric, which outlines all evaluation criteria.

(State your goal and strategies in full sentences.) |
| In order to…ensure that my diet adheres to Canada’s Food Guide recommendations,

| Strategies for success (be specific): S.M.A.R.T. goal format not required here: |
| 1) I will first develop a list of fruits and vegetables I am permitted to eat. As I had cardiac valve replacement surgery in the summer of 2021, I am required to regulate the amount of potassium I ingest on a regular basis. This means eliminating foods like bananas and green leafy vegetables from my diet, or at the very least minimizing the amounts I consume. Failure to do so will interfere with the medication I currently take to maintain the INR level in my blood (which affects the rate at which my blood is able to clot). |
| 2) I will research the most reputable recipe websites on the web. For example, the Chef’s Pencil lists their top 21 sites, complete with commentary that explains what makes them the best. I will do so with the aim of locating resources comprised of recipes designed for the busy professional. As I work 8 to 10 hours most weekdays and have family-related responsibilities thereafter, it is essential that meals are easy to prepare yet retain their nutritional value. I am also in need of ideas for meals that are readily transportable as I spend much of my time away from home. |
