MTLH 9220 Individual Assignment: Legislation Paper

Purpose:

• • To identify, describe, and explore legislation influencing mental health care in Niagara Region, Ontario, or Canada [International/Global legislation will result in a mark of ZERO (0)].
• • To describe the impact and relevance of legislation on patients, families and/or communities with mental health challenges.
• • To demonstrate effective written communication and report-style writing, following APA formatting.

Format for the Assignment:
• Select a piece of relevant legislation as the topic for your paper. Examples include, but are not limited to:

• Mental Health Act
• Health Care Consent Act
• Substitute Decisions Act
• Personal Health Information Protection Act

Information on Legislation acts:

• This is an individual assignment worth 20% of your final grade (Part 1 [5%] and Part 2 [15%]).

Part 1 includes:

• APA title
• Outline of your content- use of heading
• Introduction
• One reference
• Keep with APA format- including font style and spacing, pg numbering

Part 2 includes:

• 2 pages of the content (intro, act definition, exploring the impact of the act)
• See marking rubric
• The paper should be 2 pages in length and written in APA essay format (beyond the pg limit will not be marked).
  • This is an essay paper; point form is not acceptable and will result in a grade of ZERO (0); you must write full sentences and paragraphs.
  • Use APA formatting for in-text citation and referencing to support your statements. Include a reference list at the end of your paper and title page (Title page and the reference list DO NOT count for the paper length).
  • Use Times New Roman size 12 font and double space (APA format).
