Business Intelligence and Corporate Performance Management

In this assignment, you will complete a Business Intelligence research project (2500 words count). Students are required to conduct a comprehensive literature search on your chosen topic (see list of topics below), collate and analyse your findings, and compile a professionally written report.

List of topics (choose one):-

1. A detailed study of BI application in a particular industry domain, e.g., telecommunications, finances, banking, education, airline, sport, etc.

2. BI in the Cloud or Cloud-based BI
3. BI and Big Data
4. Mobile BI
5. BI and Visualisation
6. BI and Corporate Performance Management

The research report should include, but are not limited to, the following:

Executive Summary/Abstract (about 200 – 299 words)

Introduction and Benefits:

• – Introduce your chosen topic
• – Explain its key components or architecture
• – Explain and justify its benefits through some examples or companies that are adopting the technologies (i.e. how the technology has benefited x company or y community)

Critical Success Factors:

• – Suggest and discuss the relevant facilitators (“critical success factors, CSF”) that may influence the implementation of the chosen topic/ BI technology (eg. Mobile BI, Cloud BI, etc). Support your CSF suggestions with the existing literature, you should provide a table to highlight the CSF and the related references (authors, year).
• – You may explain the critical success factors from technological, process/project, people, or organisational perspectives.
• Conclusion and Implications:
• – Conclude the research findings
• – Provide some recommendations/implications for future adopters (“So what? What should future adopters do? Which critical area they should pay more attention to?)________________________________________________________________________

Report guidelines:

1. Each report should contain an appropriate title that captures the research topic. (A not- so creative example: A research report on Mobile BI)
2. The report should contain an executive summary (about 200 – 299 words) that provides an overview of the content.
3. The body of the report should contain ‘Table of contents’, ‘Introduction’, logically organised subsections on each topic, ‘Conclusion’ and ‘List of references’.
4. You may include diagrams, tables and charts – these do not count towards the word limit.
5. The length of the assignment excludes Table of contents and References list.
6. Word limit: Individual submission should be no less than 2500 words.
7. Reports should be written in Microsoft Word (font size 11) and submitted as a Word file.
8. Referencing format (APA): You should include any website, journal, or conference papers you have cited in your research paper as references. Use at least 5 academic journals and no less than 8 references.
