Read the introduction to help you understand the author’s motivation for writing this study.
In 4-‐5 pages, 12-‐point font, double-‐spaced, discuss the following:
- Briefly link the developmental tasks of adolescence to the students in the book. Briefly include how people are shaped by the systems in their environment, and human resilience, using the outcomes of students in the book as
- Select one of the students introduced in the book. Explain the dynamics of specific macro forces and mezzo factors that help to explain the challenges faced by this student, and his/her decisions, behaviors, and
- Explain at least 3 specific interventions that a school social worker might conduct with and on behalf of the student you discussed in #2.
- Choose one of the adults in the school and critique how this person contributed (positively and negatively) to the students’ school experience. Suggest 2-‐3 specific ways that a social worker could have intervened with this person to strengthen his/her role as it impacted the students.
- Briefly discuss how the book changed or broadened your understanding of school social work. Consider what you learned about the needs of students, the impact of educators and staff, the school environment, and how a social work perspective can influence and help to strengthen this complex system.
