DNP as the Terminal Degree for APRNs

During this course, you have reviewed the following:

  • The various roles and specialties of the Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
  • The policies and regulations governing the practice in Texas
  • The socioeconomics and business of an APRN practice
  • Ethics surrounding the practice of an APRN.

The Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) was developed to be the terminal degree for an APRN.  The additional knowledge and clinical hours gained would enhance the APRN in their practice.  Nurse Practitioner programs in many states and numerous colleges and universities now offer the BSN to DNP degree as the sole degree to train as an APRN.

Assignment: Reviewing the eight DNP essentials, the information covered in class, and any additional peer-reviewed journal articles, discuss your position regarding the value of the DNP to your future APRN practice.  You must support your position with peer-reviewed journal articles.
