After reviewing the course content for weeks 5 and 6, answer the following questions in a new Word document. Please label your answers (1., 2., 3., etc.) to ensure you have covered each question.

This is specific to your upbringing and experiences, but you do not have to give any details you are not comfortable sharing. Review the rubric in D2L to see all that is required (reference page).

Part One: Your experiences

1. What are the parenting styles discussed in the course? How would you describe the parenting style (link to textbook chapter) that you were raised with? Tell me about a few characteristics or values that were used – for example: who made the rules and how did you know? (4 marks)
2. How has your upbringing shaped your concept or perception of family and community? (3 marks)
3. Was independence or interdependence promoted as a child? Why do you think there were some things you are asked to do or not allowed to do? (3 marks)
4. Were/are there any specific gender roles or expectations when you were growing up? What were they? (3 marks)

Part Two: Compare to theory.

Using only course content covered in seminar, required readings and lecture for support, answer the following questions. For full marks, you must tell us where you found the information by citing the week, title, page/slide#/time in video. For example, your citation would follow any idea (sentence) that is not your own (Week 6, Early Childhood Seminar, Parenting Style, Slide 18). Not only at the end of an answer or paragraph. Please refer to the Fleming Library APA citation guidelines. A reference page is required.

1. Using the material from the course, what is a collectivist culture and what are some examples? (2 marks)
2. Using the material from the course, what is an individualistic culture and what are some examples? (2 marks)
3. Do different cultures value one parenting style over another? Provide examples from the seminar discussion and personal experience to explain the difference between two cultures. (4 marks)
4. What role does social media play in the way we parent around the world? Provide an example. (3 marks)
