Role of Corporate Social Responsibility in Free Trade Zones
One of the advantages of a free-trade zone is optimization of the labor force. Labor intensive jobs get moved to lower wage earning countries to maximize profits. One supposed benefit to the home country is it allows for workers to gain new skills and higher earning jobs.
- Do corporations have a social responsibility to ensure the employees that are being left behind have training and job placement opportunities?
Include real world examples of companies who have and have not provided such assistance. Should the government try to enforce this somehow?
- Do corporations that do not provide this type of assistance acting in a way that is detrimental to the overall economy (e.g. higher unemployment, lower wages, etc…)
