The Emergency of the Truman Doctrine

The Truman Doctrine essentially emerged after the withdrawal of British troops from Greece and after a warning by the Russian ambassador that the influence of Russia and its ideology of Communism was bound to expand quickly. The doctrine was formulated in the year 1947, primarily at the beginning of the cold war era. The doctrine was a policy directed towards facilitating the containment of Russia. The doctrine sought to provide aid which was in the form of both military as well as economic. The doctrine, however, ruled out the direct engagement and involvement of the US troops in countering the likely influence of the Russians to Greece. Turkey also benefited from the Truman doctrine since it was also at a threat of falling to communist Russia. A key drive that was a foundation of the Truman doctrine was the trial of a takeover of Greece by the communist, a move that provided evidence of the growth of Russian influence in Greece. The move by President Harry Truman would help prevent the growth of Russian influence across the globe.
